Barcelona are gradually starting to plan for life after Lionel Messi. The Argentina international has been the club’s greatest player of all time, inarguably so, and it is no secret that the Catalans are heavily reliant on their captain who has racked up in excess of 500 goals for them throughout his illustrious career.
Lionel Messi is now 32 and as a result, Barca have signed the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann who would possibly inherit the reigns in the next few years. However, the French duo has failed to live up to expectations and as a result, it looks like Ernesto Valverde’s side will require another mammoth investment to replace Messi.
Fox Sports has now reported that the La Liga’s defending champions are set to get the better of arch rivals Real Madrid and sign English prodigy Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. Manchester City and Manchester United are also thought to be pursuing him, but Barca are considered frontrunners for the 120 million euro rated forward.
Jadon Sancho was the only player alongside Eden Hazard and Lionel Messi to have hit double figures in both- goals and assists- in Europe’s top five leagues last season, courtesy of his Bundesliga exploits. This season he is only getting better as Dortmund try to challenge for the German championship yet again after narrowly losing to Bayern Munich last year.
The England international has been the subject of transfer speculation in the last few months, but he has insisted that he will be staying at Borussia Dortmund at least until the next summer. This means that Barcelona must all but stop hoping about a possible January transfer for the upcoming youngster.
